Introduction

 

The Hong Kong College of Fine Arts (hereinafter referred to as "Hong Kong College of Fine Arts"), which has a long history and is highly regarded by China and the world, was approved and registered by the Hong Kong Education Department in 1952. It is the first professional school in Hong Kong with the purpose of art education. Master Qi Baishi even wrote the name of our school in his own handwriting, which became the only signature calligraphy in his life. This encouragement and honor strengthens the Hong Kong Academy of Fine Arts’ mission of promoting aesthetic education!

 

Since its establishment in 1952, the Hong Kong Academy of Fine Arts has cultivated many elites engaged in visual arts, and their achievements are obvious to all, so it is known as the "Shaolin Temple of Fine Arts".

 

The Hong Kong Academy of Fine Arts is rooted in Hong Kong, looking forward to the world, and inherits from its excellent teachers - two generations of oil painting masters (Li Tiefu andChen Haiying) has a great relationship with the reputation. Our school is a pioneer in Hong Kong art education that is well-known both at home and abroad.

 

Excellent teacher

Professor Chen Haiying, the founding principal of the school, is known as the "Godfather of Hong Kong Painting" and an internationally renowned art educator. Principal Chen studied under Mr. Li Tiefu. Mr. Li was "the first painter in Chinese oil painting" and was honored as "the giant of East Asian painting" by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Principal Chen was indeed Li's only disciple. In 1994, Principal Chen was selected as one of the three most outstanding painters in the American Portrait International Competition. He was invited to visit by Columbia University, Boston University, Missouri State University and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to share experiences and teach Western painting techniques. . In recognition of Principal Chan's outstanding contribution to Hong Kong's aesthetic education, the Hong Kong Leisure and Cultural Services Department organized a retrospective exhibition on him in 2002 at the Hong Kong Museum of Art titled "The Journey of the Sea of Art".  

His master, Mr. Li Tiefu, is the Asian descendant of the internationally renowned painters John Sargent and William Chase. 21 of Li's works have been selected into the international art world. He is the first Chinese to study art in the West; A painter of outstanding achievements. John Sargent was a British-American who was a leading portrait painter in the 19th century; he was also a close friend of the famous French Impressionist painter Claude Monet. William Zees is a famous American Impressionist painter and educator.
